Warehouse Team Leader

God's Pantry Food Bank serves 50 counties in Central and Eastern Kentucky in partnership with more than 500 Food pantries and meal programs.Our VisionA nourished life for every KentuckianOur MissionReducing hunger by working together to feed Kentucky communities.PurposeThe Warehouse Lead, Lexington, leads and manages the tactical and strategic operations and activities of the Lexington warehouse. This includes all receiving and distribution operations, ensuring task completion and accuracy, while building team proficiency. The position is an integral member of the Operations team.RequirementsEssential Duties / FunctionsSupervise and manage the Lexington warehouse operations under the direction of the Warehouse Manager.Supervise the Lexington warehouse team, ensuring compliance with company policies, delegating projects and tasks.Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules and expedite workflow. Assign staff duties and examine work for accuracy, neatness and compliance to policies and procedures.Ensure labor is allocated in a manner appropriate for order demand and consistent with Food Bank priorities.Supervise the receipt and storage of product.Supervise staff on unloading and accounting for delivered product.Supervise staff on the inventory control of new product, ensuring that pallets contain required information on pallet tags on USDA and COOP dry and frozen goods.Supervise the receipt of donated items, ensuring superior customer service.Supervise storage and proper care of product within regulatory guidelines.Supervise the smooth functioning of the order picking process:Assign and assure orders are pulled in a timely, efficient and accurate manner.Communicate with the Warehouse and Receiving Team Leads about orders to be released.Perform or delegate qualified warehouse personnel to perform cycle counts between each batch of orders to address any discrepancies in real time.Review order accuracy and conduct quality checks and studies.Standardize procedures, with supervisor approval, to improve staff efficiency.Provide reports on productivity and order accuracy to the Operations Director.Supervise the agency pickup process at the Lexington facility to ensure accuracy and great customer service.Manage the movement of donated and food-sorted product prior to delivery to volunteer center and the sorted product upon returning to the warehouse from the volunteer center.Maintain computer skills, including Microsoft Office; experience with CERES and Paylocity is preferred.Inventory ControlLead staff in accurately recording product receipting and distribution and devise strategies to ensure inventory accuracy.Work with the Inventory Control Coordinator to assure quality counts of product and maximize accuracy.Supervise regular daily and weekly cycle counts for both dry and perishable product and address discrepancies as soon as possible.Address over, short, and damage discrepancies as they occur and take necessary actions.Maintenance of Warehouse and EquipmentDaily inspect warehouse facilities and equipment to ensure proper maintenance, reporting repairs to the Operations Director.Train staff in the proper use of equipment in handling and storing.Train and certify operators on material handling equipment.Personnel ManagementTrain new hires and current staff in order pulling, safe equipment operation, customer service, warehouse housekeeping and other routines.Perform informal periodic performance evaluations and annual formal performance evaluations.Develop the team by cross-training qualified employees and seeking potential in others.Handle employee performance issues with positive communication and clear expectations in real time.Position requires face-to-face communication and hands-on activity; 75% of time active on the floor and 25% or less at a desk setting.Work and Food Safety & SanitationOversee and evaluate staff safety practices, maintaining the safety of all operations.Inspect the warehouse daily to ensure no security or safety issues.Ensure staff enforce security and safety procedures.Assess daily and remove dangerous conditions before accidents occur (e.g., water spill cleanup).Serve as a member of the safety committee.Oversee product receiving and distribution to ensure safety and integrity.Maintain high standards of warehouse sanitation and safety in compliance with AIB standards.Ensure removal of empty pallets from aisles, coolers and freezers.Supervise staff for housekeeping services, ensuring cleanliness and pest control according to scheduled cleaning.Assign pest control responsibilities to a warehouse individual and conduct spot checks for compliance.Ensure compliance with all regulations related to warehouse operations, safety, food handling, pest control and any standards set by Feeding America or other agencies.Additional Duties and ResponsibilitiesMaintain required job knowledge, skills and core professional competencies.Willingly act in capacity of a warehouse worker to assist with order pulling when demand is present or requested by supervisor.Attend and participate in required educational programs and staff meetings.Communicate effectively.Display excellent employee relations skills and coaching abilities.Build team morale and foster a positive atmosphere.Think outside the box.Perform other duties as assigned.ExpectationsGod's Pantry Food Bank is both a crisis response and an ongoing service agency. Staff must be adaptable and creative, able to handle rapid change and the unusual demands of time and effort. It is also imperative that excellent working relationships and a positive atmosphere be maintained with staff, donors, volunteers, clients and all others the employee interacts with while representing the organization.QualificationsMinimum five years of warehousing and supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Previous experience in inventory and food warehousing preferred.Forklift certification and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required.Position involves heavy lifting.Concern for hunger and poverty and their solutions.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work with a broad cross-section of individuals.Time CommitmentFull-time 40 hours / week.
