Our medical malpractice insurance defense firm has an opening for an experienced, full‑time litigation secretary for a busy partner’s practice. The position is non‑exempt and a 37.5‑hour work week supporting a partner in a single assignment. We offer an excellent health and benefits package and 401(K) profit sharing plan. We are flexible with a hybrid schedule after an initial period in the office.
The successful candidate is a well‑organized, detail‑oriented team player with at least 3 years recent California litigation experience; medical malpractice insurance defense highly preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Establishes and maintains attorney calendar and deadline reminder systems; utilizes master calendar system.
Open new client matters, prepare new matter forms, set up client profiles and close files.
Types and preparation of letters, format pleadings, memoranda and other legal documents. Prepare expense reports.
E‑filing court documents; familiar with local rules of Court, State and Federal Courts.
Ability to prepare and organize discovery, motions and other pleadings, including deposition notices and subpoenas. Trial/hearing binder creation, preparation of exhibits.
Ability to assist attorney with all aspects of managing cases through trial.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Minimum 2-3 years of legal secretary litigation and state and federal filing experience.
Advanced working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Solid drafting and proofreading skills.
Knowledge of legal terminology, legal documents and legal processes.
Ability to multi‑task on a variety of projects and meet deadlines.
