Handle all aspects of medical malpractice, and wrongful death cases. This involves initial case setup, discovery, record summarization, pleadings, motions for summary judgment, and preparation for trial.Performs a broad range of secretarial, administrative, and trial support duties for one or more attorneys. Organizes and maintains all files, calendars/scheduling, and other correspondence relating to litigation and administrative matters under the direct supervision of attorneys.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:Perform legal and factual research; perform records researchIdentify relevant judicial decisions, statutes, legal articles, codes, and other pertinent material; review and monitor new and updated regulationsOrganize and analyze information; cross-check and validate informationPrepare written reports and draft legal documents including briefs, appeals, contracts, and legal agreements and correspondenceHelp prepare legal arguments, applications, declarations, and motionsCheck legal forms and documents for accuracyMaintain reference files; organize and track case filesMaintain law libraryCoordinate law office activities such as subpoena deliveriesLocate and communicate with witnesses; interact with clientsAssist the lawyer in the courtroomPerform other duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)Bachelor's degree, associate's degree, or certificate program in paralegal studiesMinimum of three years legal experience, ideally in malpractice defenseEquivalent combination of education and/or experience consideredThorough knowledge of legal principles, legal research techniques, legal terminology, and government regulationsExcellent legal drafting, writing, and verbal communication skillsExcellent interpersonal skills, analytical, and critical thinking skillsProficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OutlookAbility to operate basic office equipment such as a copy machine, fax machine, printer, scanner, and computerAbility to work with databases and on-line technological platformsAbility to be detail-oriented, diligent, and flexibleAbility to handle conflicting time demands and focus on task completion with little direction or need for supervisory follow-upProficient command of the English language in both oral and written formatAbility to work and maintain patience with diversified individuals of various backgrounds and professional competenciesAbility to maintain confidentiality in a professional mannerAbility to pass Background, Drug Screen and if applicable Medical Screenings (i.e. Vision, Hearing, or Physical) if Required by Client.Medical, dental, vision, ancillary coverage and 401k benefits are available.
