The Winsor School Director of Rowing Reports to: Director of Athletics Classification: exempt/part-time 0.6 FTE Position Summary: The Director of Rowing is a 10.5 (mid-August - June 30) month position responsible for the Head coaching responsibilities of the Winsor crew team, co-management of the Winsor-Belmont Hill Boathouse, and development of the rowing program. The Director position is a part-time, 10.5-month position reporting to the Director of Athletics. This position has variable hours in and out of season, which average to 24 hrs/week, and works to the school calendar. Essential Functions: CoachingHead coach of the fall and spring seasons of rowing, approximately from the end of August through mid-November and early March through mid to end of JuneLeads and directs the development of the rowing programDevelops practice plans for a wide range of skill abilities, from beginner to more experienced rowersIdentifies and promotes examples of best practice that will increase participation and membershipOffer optional training for all team members during the school's spring breakDesigns a winter training program & meets with crew athletes to discuss their individual training programs and developmentCollaborates closely with the Director of Athletics to ensure rowing program goals are in alignment with the athletic program OperationsOversees the management and safety of the Winsor boathouse facility in conjunction with the Director of Athletics and the Director of FacilitiesEnsures that the racing shells & launches are in safe and proper working order; including ordering parts, sourcing gas, and performing any small repairs and working with the Director of Athletics and Facilities on larger maintenance and repairsTransports racing shells and equipment to all regattas and to and from Winsor for storageAssists with the management and hiring of all Rowing Assistant CoachesSchedules all team races and regattas and directs the home races on the Charles River Qualifications and SkillsPreferred experience coaching at the collegiate, club, and/or international rowing levelPreferred experience driving and trailing crew racing shellsCurrent certification for Adult CPR and AED training (If not currently certified, you will need to be certified)Bachelor's degreeAppropriate personal and professional boundariesDemonstrated commitment to community and inclusion workHandles confidential information in accordance with school policies, HIPAA-related considerations, and employment lawAbility to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, adjusting as needed for weather and school eventsMust have a valid state driver's licenseA passion for coaching and for the community life of schoolsA deep understanding of best practices in coachingThe ability to facilitate difficult conversations with students, colleagues, and familiesA confident, collaborative professional who listens well, remains flexible, and thinks forward Work Environment and Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Compensation and Benefits This is a benefits-eligible position with an anticipated salary range of $50,000 to $54,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
