LOCATION: Beech Grove High SchoolJOB TITLE: Art TeacherREPORTS TO: Building PrincipalEMPLOYMENT AND FLSA STATUS: Certified/Exempt/SalaryJOB GOALThe Art Teacher will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, ceramics, stained glass, and art historyInstruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the schoolProvide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about artDemonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing and paintingUnderstand the versatility of acrylic paints: dry brushing, staining, layering, underpainting, monoprinting Understand a variety of "masters" techniquesKnows and can apply elements of design and modern principles of artKnows the fundamentals and different approaches to drawing media techniqueProvide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activitiesInstruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipmentOrganize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collectionEvaluate each student's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare progress reportsSelect and requisition books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintain required inventory recordsPlan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students' work for the school and the communityMay sponsor exhibits from outside the schoolMaintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or in self-selected professional growth activitiesCommunicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progressParticipate in curriculum and other developmental programs, such as after school art clubPerform any other duties as may be assigned by AdministrationQUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in Art Education or Fine ArtsCurrent Indiana Teaching LicenseTwo years' work experience as an Art Teacher preferredPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:1. Seldom = Less than 25 % 2. Occasional = 26 to 50 %3. Often = 51 to 75 % 4. Very Frequent = 76 % & aboveAbility to stand for extended periods of time. (3)Ability to lift 25 lbs. (1)Ability to carry 25 lbs.(1)Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations. (4)Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter. (4)Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
