Program Assistant
*BCTP PROGRAM ASSISTANT* – Year-round Eureka, CA
This position plays a vital role in the operation of the BCTP. You will be involved in almost every aspect of the program. It will not only allow us to continue administering a high-quality program, but it is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience with all that is required to put together a BCTP season year after year. The experience you will gain will also help prepare anyone who is contemplating being a Backcountry Trails Camp Supervisor in the future as you’ll work firsthand with each year’s group of supervisors.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
* *Strong written communication skills*—there will be writing/typing of reports, emails, recruitment materials, etc. So, must have solid grammar skills.
* *Strong oral communication skills*---you’ll frequently be communicating with BCTP staff, sponsors, CCC staff, other corps and organizations, BC Supervisors, BC corpsmembers, etc. both in person and over the phone. There will be a good amount of public speaking involved too.
* *Organizational skills*—this position will oversee/manage BCTP’s supplies, gear, equip. inventories, vehicle fleet, program documents and files, etc. So, we must have someone who is organized and can prioritize and multi-task.
* *Computer skills*—typing, using all Microsoft Office programs (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, Excel), photo/video editing software, Adobe, etc. There will be lots of data entry involved.
* *People skills*—you’ll be building relationships with many folks.
* *Driving*—CA Class C CDL with passenger van endorsement. *You do not need to have this to apply and be considered.* We will discuss further.
* *Wilderness navigation*—there will be some crew visits involved so folks will need to be able to safely travel, live, and work in the wilderness.
* *Trail work knowledge*—Opportunity to go out and visit crews.
* *Leadership abilities*—make no mistake, this is a leadership position!
Other needed qualities:
* Strong attention to detail.
* Positive, happy demeanor.
* Independent, can work with little direction or supervision.
*Position Information:*
* Start Date— April 1st, the position will be open until filled.
* Pay--$19.00/hr.
* Health Insurance, but no dental or vision.
* Sick/Vacation Leave accrued.
* Work schedule will vary throughout the year. Primarily 40 hrs. a week.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 45 per week
Schedule:
* Monday to Friday
* Weekends as needed
