Senior Marine Cargo Underwriter

This is a chance to take real ownership of a $3.5 million marine cargo portfolio, with the authority to underwrite business sourced through the MGA’s in-house wholesale broker as well as your own retail agents. As the cargo book grows toward $10 million in premium, you’ll be instrumental in shaping strategy, building broker (predominantly retail but some wholesale) relationships, and ultimately progressing into a Head of Cargo role in future if you want it.Marine Cargo and Stock Throughput insurance is such an evolving space. No two risks are the same, routes, weather, ports, geopolitics, packaging, and theft exposures ensure every underwriting decision is unique. If you enjoy autonomy, growth, and underwriting that actually challenges you, this role is one to strongly consider. What do you bring to the table? You’ve spent several years underwriting Marine Cargo and know the market inside out. You’ve built strong, trusted relationships with retail agents across the U.S., and you understand how to trade, negotiate, and grow a profitable book. You like the sharpness and pace of an MGA, but you’re not looking to build something from zero hence why you've never entertained the switch. This opportunity is different. You want a platform, backing, and momentum behind you so you can focus on what you do best: underwriting quality Marine Cargo and Pollution Liabilitybusiness. We are ideally looking for candidates based in New Jersey, New York, Atlanta or Virginia. What will you receive in return? You will be offered a long-term incentive/bonus structure in addition to a strong compensation package plus opportunity to work in a hybrid set up. Should you get in touch? Well, if you like the idea of an MGA but always wanted to have a book to inherit then yes. If you have aspirations to become a Head of Cargo, but can't see this happening at your current insurance business, then absolutely yes!Next steps - If you have a resume great, if not, no problem at all, we can help you with that.
