Director of Merchandising

Job Overview:Search Solution Group is seeking a Director of Merchandising on behalf of our client, a leader in expert-graded cameras, photography, and video equipment.This strategic and data-driven leader will own assortment strategy and execution to drive growth across the company's buying and resale business. The Director of Merchandising will identify market opportunities, shape category direction, and build a high-performing assortment aligned with customer demand, margin goals, and long-term strategic objectives. The ideal candidate combines strong commercial acumen with deep knowledge of photography and/or videography equipment and thrives in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment.Key Responsibilities:Assortment Strategy & PlanningDevelop and execute a forward-looking merchandising strategy aligned with company growth objectivesDrive assortment decisions using market trends, customer insights, lifecycle data, profitability, and inventory performanceIdentify white space opportunities across brands, categories, and price tiersOptimize assortment depth and breadth to maximize revenue, margin, and inventory turnsMarket & Opportunity AnalysisMonitor industry trends in photography, videography, and the broader creator ecosystemAnalyze competitive positioning, pricing strategies, and secondary market dynamicsLeverage data to inform decision-making within a resale environmentEvaluate emerging brands, technologies, and product formats to stay ahead of demand shiftsCross-Functional LeadershipPartner closely with Buying, Pricing, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Finance teamsTranslate strategic merchandising plans into actionable inventory acquisition targetsSupport go-to-market initiatives with strong category storytelling and product prioritizationProvide executive-level reporting on category performance and strategic initiativesPerformance OwnershipOwn category-level KPIs including revenue, margin, sell-through, inventory health, and turnsEstablish forecasting frameworks that align acquisition strategy with sales velocityDevelop and implement test-and-learn strategies for new categories or expansion initiativesRequirements include:Education:Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Merchandising, or related field preferredExperience:8+ years of merchandising, category management, or strategic assortment experience3+ years in a senior leadership or director-level roleProven success driving assortment strategy tied to revenue and margin growthExperience translating strategic vision into operational executionSkills:Strong analytical capability with experience using data to drive decision-makingDeep knowledge of photography and/or videography equipment (professional or advanced enthusiast level)Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on executionStrong financial and commercial acumenExcellent executive communication and presentation skillsCertifications:Industry-related certifications or professional training preferred but not requiredKnowledge:Resale, recommerce, or secondary market dynamics preferredConsumer electronics or specialty retail landscapeUsed inventory environments, grading models, and dynamic pricing structuresForecasting, inventory planning, and margin optimization strategiesKey Competencies:Strategic thinking and long-term planningOpportunity identification and market sensingData-driven decision-makingExecutive communication and influenceCommercial acumen in a margin-sensitive environmentCollaborative leadership without direct-report reliancePassion for visual storytelling and creator toolsHow to Apply:To apply for this position, please click the "Apply" button at the top right of your screen.
