Staff Accountant
We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a nonprofit organization in Tarrytown, New York in a fully onsite, contract-to-permanent position. This role focuses on grant and program accounting, supporting accurate financial records, reporting, billing, and compliance across multiple funding sources. The ideal candidate will bring strong nonprofit accounting experience, a solid understanding of month-end and year-end processes, and the ability to work collaboratively with finance and program teams.Responsibilities:• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities to help ensure timely and accurate financial results.• Prepare financial schedules and assist in producing regular reports, including month-end statements and other required fiscal reporting.• Coordinate documentation and provide support during financial and compliance audits conducted by federal, state, local, and other external parties.• Track program-related expenditures and maintain organized records to support billing, reimbursement requests, and grant reporting.• Submit vouchers and bill eligible costs to the correct funding sources while meeting required deadlines.• Review program finances for alignment with grant and contract requirements and help maintain compliance with applicable guidelines.• Reconcile spreadsheets to the general ledger, maintain supporting schedules, and assist with posting-related accuracy.• Prepare and recommend journal entries related to revenue, receivables, accruals, and other accounting adjustments as needed.• Investigate budget-to-actual variances, share findings with management, and assist with budget revision recommendations.• Partner with finance leadership, program staff, vendors, and funding contacts on reporting needs, special projects, and day-to-day accounting support.• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.• 1-5 years of accounting experience is required.• Prior nonprofit or fund accounting experience is required, including work with grants or restricted funding.• Knowledge of grant administration, government grant billing, and program-based expense tracking is strongly preferred.• Strong understanding of month-end close, quarter-end close, year-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting standards.• Advanced Excel skills and solid overall computer proficiency are required.• Experience supporting audits and preparing accounting documentation for external review is preferred.• Familiarity with Abila MIP or similar nonprofit accounting systems is a plus.Robert Half is the world’s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
