Optometric Technician/Receptionist
You will play a vital role in supporting the optometrist and ensuring a seamless patient experience. In a busy clinic environment, you’ll conduct preliminary testing, assist during eye exams, and handle many administrative tasks to help maintain patient flow and clinical precision.
This position requires proper etiquette, attention to detail, professional appearance and punctuality.
Previous experience preferred but not required.
Job responsibilities include:
Greet patients, check them in, update medical history, and verify insurance/contact information
Manage appointment scheduling and patient flow efficiently to minimize wait times and maximize doctor productivity
Verifying and understanding insurance benefits
Perform pre‑testing: visual acuity, intraocular pressure (tonometry), color and depth perception, ocular motility, peripheral vision screening
Operate diagnostic equipment: autorefractor/keratometer, lensometer, retinal imaging (OCT, Optomap), visual field analyzer
Assist with contact lens fitting and training (insertion, removal, care instructions)
Maintain and update electronic health records (EHR), including test results and exam notes in compliance with HIPAA
Excellent communication skills and ability to multi-task
Work collaboratively with clinic staff to deliver a consistent, welcoming, and professional patient experience
Team player and self motivator
Ability to produce neat handwritten correspondence or record‑keeping when required
Proficient in typing with a speed of 40 to 60 words per minutes (WPM), ensuring quick and efficient completion of data entry
Weekend shifts are required to support clinic hours
