All are water-soluble, easy to formulate with, and backed by clinical data with results in as little as 14 days.We partner with indie brands, global beauty houses, contract manufacturers, and distributors to bring the full Activated Silk™ platform to market — and we’re looking for a skilled cosmetic formulator to help them unlock its potential.About the RoleThis role is for a bench-savvy cosmetic formulator who loves both the science and the craft of making great products. You’ll develop serums, creams, cleansers, conditioners, and body care formulas that leverage the full Activated Silk™ platform — a portfolio of clinically backed bioactive peptides, each with proven consumer claims ranging from pro-collagen and barrier boost to hyperpigmentation reduction, environmental protection, and 24-hour hydration.You’ll be the technical face of Evolved By Nature in the personal care space: training formulators, troubleshooting formulas, building claims-substantiated chassis formulas, and helping brand and CMO partners bring winning products to market. If you get excited by texture, skin feel, and finding the right active to power a hero claim, this role is for you.What You’ll DoFormulation & Bench Work•      Rapidly develop and iterate skin, hair, and body care formulas — serums, creams, lotions, cleansers, conditioners, masks, and more — incorporating Activated Silk™ peptides and performance actives to meet customer and marketing briefs•      Build and maintain a chassis formula library across key product formats and textures, integrating actives strategically to support claims across anti-aging, brightening, hydration, barrier repair, and other benefit territories•      Evaluate and select raw materials for compatibility, performance, and aesthetics; assess skin feel, rheology, and consumer-relevant attributes at bench•      Run stability testing, compatibility studies, and sensory assessments on lab batches, prototype formulas, and finished goods•      Keep thorough bench records of raw materials, formula iterations, observations, and test resultsCustomer & Partner Technical Support•      Serve as the primary technical resource for brands, CMOs, and distributor partners — answering formulation questions, guiding ingredient usage, and supporting scale-up•      Lead hands-on formulation training sessions at partner sites (CMOs, distributors, brand labs) to build confidence and competency with Activated Silk™ ingredients•      Troubleshoot formulation challenges remotely and on-site, from emulsion instability to texture issues to processing questions•      Build trusted, collaborative relationships with external formulators and technical contacts across the personal care industry•      Travel domestically approximately 50% of the time to partner sites for training, troubleshooting, and technical consultationsProduct Development & Claims Support•      Match the right Activated Silk™ actives to customer briefs, leveraging existing clinical claims data (pro-collagen, barrier boost, hyperpigmentation reduction, skin repair, hydration) to build a compelling product story•      Guide partners on how to communicate ingredient claims accurately in their marketing and on-pack copy, based on Evolved By Nature’s clinical substantiation•      Manage project timelines and deliverables from early prototype through product launch•      Document formulation work in a clear, organized way: formula sheets, raw material summaries, stability summaries, and testing reports•      Communicate the material science and performance story behind Activated Silk™ — to formulators, brand scientists, and non-technical stakeholders alike•      Contribute to future ingredient development and application testing as the portfolio growsWhat We’re Looking ForEducation & Experience•      MS or PhD in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of hands-on cosmetic formulation experience, OR•      BS in one of the above disciplines with 10+ years of industry formulation experience•      Experience must be primarily in personal care / cosmetic formulation — skincare, haircare, or body care. This is not a pharma or drug formulation role.Formulation Knowledge•      Deep, hands-on experience formulating emulsions (O/W, W/O, silicone), surfactant systems, serums, anhydrous products, rinse-off and leave-on hair care•      Strong working knowledge of cosmetic raw materials: emulsifiers, polymers, rheology modifiers, preservation systems, and sensory modifiers•      Experience selecting and incorporating performance actives to support consumer-relevant claims — and comfort working from existing clinical data to match actives to product briefs•      Ability to evaluate and optimize texture, skin feel, spreadability, and aesthetics alongside stability and efficacy•      Experience running and interpreting stability studies, compatibility tests, and basic in-vitro or consumer evaluations•      Familiarity with scale-up considerations from bench to pilot to manufacturing scaleSkills & Mindset•      Demonstrated experience training or mentoring other formulators in lab techniques and best practices•      Comfortable managing multiple external partners simultaneously with competing timelines and priorities•      Strong communicator — able to explain formulation science to expert chemists and non-technical brand managers with equal clarity•      Self-directed and solutions-oriented: you can plan a project, troubleshoot unexpected results, and keep things moving independently•      Organized documentation habits — detailed bench records, clean formula sheets, and clear summaries are second nature•      Curious and adaptable: excited to work with novel biomaterial ingredients and develop new formulation techniquesBonus Points•      Experience working with biopolymers, silk proteins, peptides, or other nature-derived high-performance actives•      Familiarity with cosmetic claims territories and how to match an active’s proven benefits to a product brief or hero claim•      Existing relationships within the indie beauty, prestige skincare, or contract manufacturing space•      Experience supporting channel partners or distributors in a technical capacity•      Familiarity with green chemistry, biodegradability, or sustainable formulation principlesLocation & TravelThis role is based at our lab facility in Needham, MA.
