Registered Professional Nurse - PT - Jail Location

About the JobVACANCY:At the present time, there is a part-time, up to 17 hours per week, opening in the Schuyler County Sheriff's Department. Typically, this position works 3-4 hours Mon - Fri but is on-call nights and weekends. This position is considered non-competitive and will not require a Civil Service examination.RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:Candidates must have been legal residents of Schuyler or a contiguous (Chemung, Seneca, Steuben, Tompkins and Yates) county for at least one month immediately preceding the date of applicationJOB DESCRIPTION:The work involves performing patient care services in accordance with professional nursing practices, special orders from physicians, and established rules and regulations. Work is reviewed under general supervision. Registered Professional Nurses are expected to perform required and routine duties independently.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:Maintains contact with the Jail Medical Director.Assesses and evaluates inmates' health conditions for referral to doctor.Performs emergency first aid treatment of injuries.Participates in daily rounds to obtain status of unit inmates.Administers prescribed medications by the appropriate route and instruct inmates and other staff to possible side effects of those medications.Observes, assesses, records, and reports on inmates' physical condition mental status, behavior and systemic signs for complications, regressive behavior, or relapse.Counts narcotics and syringes and documents each shift.Maintain records and prepare reports.Maintain medication, supply, and medical tool inventories in accordance with legal and departmental mandates.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
