Job Description Description:The Fuel Systems Estimator is a specialty role for someone who has spent meaningful time in the field building fuel systems and can now bring that hands-on expertise to the estimating table. You know these systems inside and out, the piping, the tanks, the dispensers, the containment, and you can translate that knowledge into accurate, competitive bids whether you're working from a full set of construction documents or nothing more than a scope description and a site address. This is not an entry point into fuel systems; it's a role for someone who has already lived the work and is ready to own it on paper.This role sits within the estimating department's specialty lane, focused primarily on fuel systems scope. You'll be expected to produce complete, competent fuel systems estimates independently while also contributing to broader project estimates when needed. Outside expertise in other trades is welcome but not required, what matters most is depth in fuel.Key ResponsibilitiesProduce complete fuel systems estimates from full construction documents, including detailed takeoffs of piping, tanks, dispensers, containment, cathodic protection, and all associated componentsBuild accurate conceptual estimates from preliminary scopes, narrative descriptions, or minimal documentation, filling gaps with field-informed judgment and experienceQualify subcontractor and supplier pricing across all fuel systems components, ensuring scope completeness and competitive coverageIdentify project-specific complexities, site conditions, system configurations, manufacturer requirements, that affect cost and flag them early in the bid processApply working knowledge of regulatory variability across jurisdictions, accounting for compliance-related costs even when documentation is incompleteCollaborate with the estimating team on multi-trade projects, contributing fuel systems scope and supporting overall bid assemblyServe as an internal resource on fuel systems questions, helping less experienced estimators understand scope, systems, and manufacturer distinctionsStay current on manufacturer product lines, pricing trends, and emerging fuel system technologies relevant to the company's project portfolioSubmit your CV and any additional required information after you have read this description by clicking on the application button.Skills & CompetenciesFuel Systems Mastery, Possesses a deep, practical understanding of how fuel systems are designed, specified, and built across a wide range of project types and configurationsConceptual Estimating, Can construct an accurate, defensible bid from minimal information by applying field experience and system knowledge to fill in what documentation doesn't provideManufacturer Fluency, Comfortable working across multiple product lines and can identify cost and scope implications when manufacturers differRegulatory Awareness, Understands that compliance requirements vary by jurisdiction and builds estimates that account for that variability rather than assuming a single standardScope Qualification, Evaluates subcontractor and supplier bids with a critical eye, identifying gaps, overlaps, and pricing anomalies that others might missCollaborative Depth, Works well within a team estimating environment and contributes technical expertise that elevates the quality of broader project bidsAdaptability, Willing to flex outside the fuel systems lane when project needs call for it, and open to building general estimating knowledge over timeRequirements:High School diploma/GED, requiredMinimum of 8+ years of hands-on fuel systems experience in field installation, project supervision, or a combination of bothMinimum of 3+ years in an estimating or takeoff capacity, with direct experience estimating fuel systems projectsDemonstrated ability to estimate from full construction documents and from conceptual or preliminary scopesExtensive working knowledge of fuel systems across major manufacturers, including NOV, OPW, NUPI, and comparable product linesStrong familiarity with underground storage tanks (UST) and aboveground storage tanks (AST), including steel and fiberglass configurationsExperience with dispensers, fuel management systems, secondary containment, and cathodic protection systemsAwareness of how regulatory requirements vary across states and jurisdictions, with the ability to account for compliance costs in bids even in the absence of project-specific documentationField experience strongly preferred; estimating depth and fuel systems expertise may substitute in exceptional casesMust be able to meet company’s employment requirements, which includes passing a drug screen, background check, and MVR, if driving for the company Physical Requirements: include occasional lifting/carrying of 10 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment.
