With offices strategically located worldwide, Global Edge is known for the highest level of delivery for our clients and contractors.Position OverviewThe Equipment Engineer – Fired Equipment is a subject matter expert responsible for providing technical leadership and operational support for fired equipment systems within an operating facility. This role requires deep, hands-on experience with combustion systems and associated equipment, ensuring safe, reliable, and optimized performance across heaters, flares, boilers, and related systems.This is not a project-only engineering role—the position is heavily focused on real-time operations support, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.Responsibilities & Essential DutiesKey ResponsibilitiesProvide technical guidance and support for fired equipment including heaters, flares, and boilers in an operating environmentTroubleshoot complex equipment and process issues, leveraging combustion, thermal design, and process flow knowledgeAnalyze system performance and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, safety, and reliabilityApply expert knowledge of heater thermal design, combustion systems, and process integrationInterface with DCS/control systems to understand and optimize how equipment operates in real-timeSupport and evaluate refractory systems, equipment integrity, and maintenance strategiesCollaborate across disciplines (process, mechanical, controls, operations) to deliver integrated solutionsProvide input into supplier/vendor selection and support strategies, ensuring proper technical alignmentLead or support root cause analysis investigations for equipment failures or performance issuesMentor and guide less experienced engineers and technical staffCore Technical CompetenciesFired heater thermal design (combustion + process flow integration)Strong working knowledge of combustion systems and optimization techniquesExperience with flares, boilers, and fired equipment in operating facilitiesUnderstanding of refractory systems and equipment integrity managementProficiency in DCS/control systems and operational logicAbility to connect field behavior with control system performanceStrong troubleshooting capability in live production environmentsRequired QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline)Extensive experience supporting fired equipment in operations (not just EPC/project exposure)Demonstrated ability to resolve complex technical and operational issuesStrong understanding of industry standards, practices, and safety requirementsRecognized technical expertise within fired equipment disciplineAbility to integrate knowledge across multiple engineering areasPreferred ExperienceHands-on experience supporting operating units (refining, petrochemical, LNG, or similar)Direct involvement in startup, troubleshooting, and optimization of fired systemsExperience working closely with operations and maintenance teamsFamiliarity with vendor equipment and external technical support modelsLeadership & ImpactActs as a technical authority within the organizationCoaches and mentors junior engineersDrives improvements in equipment performance, reliability, and safetyInfluences cross-functional decision-making and technical directionOpportunity Employer.
