Berkeley County Schools Job Posting: Elementary Special Education Teacher - Focus Classroom Position Title: Elementary Special Education Teacher - Focus Classroom Location: Tuscarora Employment Term: 200 Days Salary: Based on the Berkeley County Schools Teacher Salary Schedule, commensurate with degree and experience Reports To: Principal, Executive Director of Special Education Position Summary: Berkeley County Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher for an elementary-level Behavior Support Classroom. This position supports students in grades K-5 who require intensive behavioral and emotional support in addition to specially designed academic instruction. The ideal candidate will demonstrate skill in fostering a structured, supportive environment that emphasizes emotional regulation, social skill development, and academic progress. Key Responsibilities:The classroom is designed to provide individualized instruction and provide individualized and small-group instruction aligned with each student's IEPImplement Behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and behavior intervention strategiesMaintain a structured, supportive classroom environment with clear expectations and routinesCollaborate with behavior specialists to conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop BIPSsMonitor student progress and maintain accurate data on academic and behavioral goalsUse trauma-informed care and de-escalation strategies to support students in crisisWork collaboratively with general education teachers, Behavior Support Team, related service providers, administrators and families to support student success and inclusion when appropriateParticipate in IEP meetings and ensure compliance with all state and federal special education regulations (IDEA, WV Policy 2419)Required Qualifications:Valid West Virginia Professional Teaching Certificate with appropriate Special Education endorsements (Multi-Categorical K-6 or BD preferred)Experience or training in behavior management and intervention strategiesKnowledge of child development, trauma-informed practices, and behavioral supportsCPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or UKERU or willingness to obtainStrong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skillsAbility to maintain a positive and calm classroom atmosphere during challenging situationsWork Setting:This position serves students in a highly structured, small classroom environment with access to support staff, including a paraprofessional, behavior support speci ile addressing behavioral and emotional needs that may prevent full participation in the general education setting. Salary Schedule Berkeley County Schools Teacher Pay Scale based upon degree level and verified years of experience. 200-day employment term. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, and demonstrate the knowledge and ability to be a qualified and effective candidate for the vacancy. A minimum of a Bachelor's degree and hold or be eligible for West Virginia licensure with endorsement(s) in Autism or special education certification that covers Autism, and Multi-Categorical Special Education with appropriate grade levels. ABA trained is preferred but the successful applicant will be provided ABA training if needed. Additional Job Information If a certified candidate is unavailable for this position, then an applicant who is eligible for a first-class permit, alternative certification, Teacher-in-Residence, or a perm sub can be considered.
