Job DescriptionEnvironmental Scientist IILocation: Bismarck, ND - must be able to be in-officeEmployment Type: Full-TimeExperience Level: 2-6 years (Environmental Consulting)Travel: Regional, as neededSalary Range: $70,000 - $95,000 annually (DOE)About the RoleEnvironmental Scientist I is a mid-level, field-capable role supporting environmental compliance, site assessment, and remediation projects across North Dakota. This position is designed for professionals who have developed foundational consulting experience and are ready to take on increased responsibility in field execution, technical documentation, and regulatory support.This role emphasizes hands-on field involvement, technical report preparation, and coordination of environmental activities under the direction of senior staff and project managers. The Environmental Scientist II contributes to project delivery but does not serve as the final authority on regulatory interpretation or project execution.Key ResponsibilitiesField & Site SupportConduct and support field activities including site assessments, soil and groundwater sampling, drilling oversight, and remediation system monitoringPerform field documentation including logs, notes, photo documentation, and data collectionSupport wetland delineations, ecological assessments, and environmental inspections under senior staff guidanceEnsure proper use of PPE and adherence to site-specific health and safety requirementsTechnical & Reporting SupportPrepare draft technical reports including site assessment reports, monitoring reports, and regulatory documentationCompile and interpret field data for inclusion in project deliverablesAssist in development of work plans, sampling plans, and remediation summariesMaintain accurate and audit-ready project documentationRegulatory Compliance SupportAssist with environmental compliance activities, including:SPCC, FRP, and SWPPP plan supportNPDES permit tracking and documentationAir permitting and Title V support tasksSARA Title III / Tier II reporting assistanceOGI and leak detection program supportPHMSA-related documentation coordinationSupport regulatory submittals and maintain compliance tracking systemsProject CoordinationCoordinate field schedules, subcontractors, and task execution under PM directionTrack project progress, deliverables, and documentation statusSupport budget tracking and time management for assigned tasksInterface with clients and regulatory agencies in a supporting roleRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related field3-5 years of environmental consulting or related experienceField experience with environmental sampling, site assessments, or remediation activitiesFamiliarity with environmental regulations related to air, water, and spill preventionStrong organizational, documentation, and communication skillsAbility to work both independently and as part of a team in field and office settingsPreferred QualificationsExperience supporting SPCC, FRP, SWPPP, NPDES, air permitting, or Tier II reportingExposure to OGI monitoring or PHMSA compliance documentationWetland delineation or ecological field experienceOSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER (or ability to obtain)Experience with drilling oversight and environmental field loggingWork Environment & Physical DemandsThis position includes both office and field work.
