Speech and Language Pathologist

We are starting a new, scholarship-based school dedicated to providing specialized educationfor neurodivergent children, particularly those with moderate to severe Autism SpectrumDisorder. Our school's first class will initially include up to five kindergarten-aged students (5-7years old) supported by a collaborative, interdisciplinary team comprised of:• Head Teacher• Assistant Teachers• Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs; current open position)• Occupational Therapist (OT)• Head of School• Clinical Care CoordinatorOur school is founded on a commitment to providing individualized, high-quality education andsupport for neurodivergent children. We are aiming to foster a nurturing, inclusive learningenvironment with a 1:1 student-to-adult ratio so that we may best serve our students' individualneeds. Although we will not be accredited in our first year, we are dedicated to establishing astrong foundation for future accreditation and long-term growth.Position Overview:We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to joinour team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the communication andsocial-emotional development of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This positionrequires a passionate professional committed to providing evidence-based, individualizedspeech and language services within a collaborative educational environment. Our goal is to1create a nurturing and supportive environment that provides individualized treatment andeducation for our students.Responsibilities:• Conducting comprehensive communication assessments for multiple students.• Developing and implementing individualized communication plans for students.• Conduct weekly language samples.• Deliver direct and indirect therapy services tailored to each individual student.• Address areas such as functional language development, social communication,pragmatic language, receptive and expressive language, articulation, fluency, andaugmentative and alternative communication systems.• Work closely with the Clinical Care Coordinator, Head Teacher, Assistant Teachersand Aides, and OT to integrate communication goals into the daily curriculum andpromote generalization of skills across settings.• Collaborate closely with the Head Teacher on intervention delivery.• Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages languagegrowth.• Provide training to Head Teacher, Assistant Teachers, and Aides to ensure continuityof communication treatment.• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledgerelated to autism spectrum disorder.• Communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and other stakeholders to provideupdates on student progress and address any concerns.• Maintain accurate and complete records and reports.We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day. If you need assistance and/or a reasonable accommodation due to a disability during the application or recruiting process, please send a request to HR@insightglobal.com.To learn more about how we collect, keep, and process your private information, please review Insight Global's Workforce Privacy Policy: https://insightglobal.com/workforce-privacy-policy/.Required Skills & ExperienceMaster's or Doctoral Degree in Speech and Language Pathology.• ASHA Certification (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-HearingAssociation (ASHA).• Current and valid California license to practice Speech and Language Pathology.• Deep understanding of ASD characteristics and effective intervention strategies.• Experience working with children and adolescents diagnosed with ASD, includingthose with significant communication challenges, co-occurring intellectual disabilities,and challenging behaviors.• Knowledge and experience with positive behavior intervention supports (PBIS) andbehavior management strategies relevant to students with severe ASD, includingfunctional behavior assessments (FBAs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).• In-depth knowledge and practical experience with a wide range of AAC systems,including low tech (e.g., picture exchange communication systems), mid-tech (e.g.,voice output devices), and high-tech (e.g., dedicated communication devices withspeech-generating software).• Ability to conduct comprehensive AAC assessments, program devices, train studentsand staff on AAC use, and integrate AAC into all aspects of the school day.2• Expertise in developing and implementing Functional Communication Training toreplace maladaptive behaviors with appropriate communication skills.• Strong understanding and experience with evidence-based interventions for socialcommunication deficits in severe ASD, such as structured teaching, social narratives,visual supports, and peer-mediated interventions.• Awareness of how sensory processing differences can affect communication andbehavior in students with ASD, and the ability to collaborate with OTs to address theseneeds.• Experience or knowledge in assessing and treating feeding/swallowing disorders.• Ability to conduct thorough speech and language assessments for students with ASD,utilizing both standardized and criterion-referenced tools, as well as informalobservations and parent/teacher interviews.• Proficiency in collecting and analyzing data to monitor student progress, adjustintervention strategies, and report on outcomes.• Mastery of various therapeutic techniques adapted for students with severe ASD,including discrete trial training, naturalistic environmental teaching, pivotal responsetreatment, and visual schedules.• Ability to respond calmly and effectively in crisis situations with appropriate training.• Exceptional ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including educators,OTs, behavioral specialists, clinical care coordinators, psychologists, andadministrators.• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with parents andcaregivers, provide training, and involve families in the therapeutic process.• Capacity to train and support school staff in implementing communication strategies,using AAC, and fostering a communication-rich environment.• Strong advocate for the communication needs of children with severe ASD.• Ability to perform physical activities such as sitting, standing, walking, running,reaching, lifting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing,and pulling.
