Special Education Nurse

SummaryProvides health services and support which will assist students in achieving and/or maintaining optimum health: Serves as a direct caregiver, advocate, leader, and educator; Provides specialized health services to all special education and medically fragile studentsEssential DutiesAssists the assigned school staff and/or student(s) in understanding and managing student health issuesConsults with Services for Exceptional Children, other nurses, school staff, parents, and students on health issues as appropriateActs as the liaison between school(s)/assigned student(s), health care provider or physician, SEC and SHS department, and other health agenciesServes as a consultant to local school staff and volunteers on health issuesProvides training to school staff, as appropriate, to perform required procedures and provides staff development training on health-related topicsProvides first aid and emergency crisis nursing care to assigned student(s) and/or ill or injured students and others as deemed appropriateProvides health counseling to assigned student(s), parents, and staffWorks in concert and collaborates with the other nurses and staff, as deemed appropriate, to meet the health care needs and to develop and follow-up on health care plans for studentsMaintains daily record of student intervention and provides monthly reports to cluster nurse or as assigned Initiates, collects, and reviews healthcare plans for special education and medically fragile students and inputs plans in EasyIEPRecommends provisions for a healthy and safe school environmentAttends in-services and training pertinent to job descriptionPerforms other duties as assigned by the appropriate administratorRequired EducationBachelor's DegreeCertification/LicensureCurrent Georgia RN license required; Current CPR and First Aid certification requiredExperience QualificationsMinimum of 5 years of experience in nursing with at least 2 years working with the pediatric populationKnowledge/Skills/AbilitiesMust be knowledgeable of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and/or processes as related to providing healthcare services and regarding appropriate first aid techniquesMust be able to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects and responsibilitiesAbility to collaborate effectively with District personnel, parents and work with diverse groups of peopleExcellent organizational and leadership skillsExcellent communication skills both written and verbalWorking ConditionsNormal office environmentRequires extensive safety training and/or protective devicesRegular exposure to infectious material/diseasesRegular exposure to chemicals and solventsPhysical DemandsMay have to lift and carry 30-50 pounds with assistanceMay have to push or pull a maximum of 50 poundsMay require bending, stooping, or crouchingPosting ID: 33629 It is the policy of the Fulton County School System not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, or disability in any employment practice, educational program, or any other program, activity, or service.
