Position SummaryThe Water Systems Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operation and distribution of water throughout the District's irrigation system.This position manages daily water delivery operations, supervises Zanjeros and Watermaster staff, and ensures accurate water accounting, regulatory compliance, and reliable system performance. The role serves as the operational lead for water movement and plays a key leadership role in coordinating activities across operations, maintenance, and support systems.Key ResponsibilitiesWater Distribution & OperationsOversee daily irrigation water delivery operations across the DistrictCoordinate surface water and groundwater usage based on system demandMonitor flows, levels, and system performance and make real-time adjustmentsApprove and manage water delivery schedulesWork Planning & CoordinationEnsure scheduling aligns with system capacity and operational prioritiesResponsible for the coordinated delivery execution with ZanjerosAdjust operations as conditions changeSystem Monitoring & PerformanceMonitor canals, pipelines, wells, and control structures for proper operationIdentify operational issues affecting flow, pressure, or delivery efficiencyCoordinate with Maintenance Supervisor for infrastructure repairsSupport troubleshooting of SCADA, communication systems, and operational technologyWater Accounting & ReportingEnsure accurate measurement and tracking of water deliveriesReview and verify daily logs from Zanjeros and Watermaster staffReconcile discrepancies and maintain accurate recordsPrepare and oversee required reporting, including ADWR submissionsWell OperationsSchedule and manage well operations based on system demandMonitor pumping rates and efficiencyCoordinate maintenance and repairs with the Maintenance SupervisorTeam Leadership & SupervisionSupervise Zanjeros and Watermaster staffAssign work, monitor performance, and ensure accountabilityProvide training and support for the water department staffPromote teamwork, professionalism, and adherence to District policiesCustomer ServiceRespond to customer concerns and service requestsResolve water delivery issues in a timely and professional mannerMaintain effective communication with water users and stakeholdersSafety & ComplianceEnforce all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirementsEnsure safe operation of water systems and field activitiesPromote proper lifting techniques and ergonomic practicesMaintain compliance with all applicable water regulationsOperational ImprovementIdentify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and water conservationSupport implementation of improved processes, tools, and technologiesOperational Expectations (SOP Awareness)The Water Systems Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the following operational processes are consistently executed:Water orders are reviewed, scheduled, and delivered efficientlySystem flows are monitored and adjusted in real timeWater delivery records are accurate and reconciled regularlyWell operations are aligned with system demand and efficiency goalsRegulatory reporting is accurate and submitted on timeQualifications & RequirementsEducation & ExperienceHigh School Diploma or equivalent requiredMinimum of 5 years of experience in irrigation systems, water distribution, or related fieldMinimum of 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience preferredExperience with canal systems, pipelines, wells, and water control structures strongly preferredEquivalent combination of education and experience may be consideredKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong knowledge of water distribution systems and irrigation operationsProficient understanding of water measurement, flow control, and delivery schedulingStrong computer skill – spreadsheets, graphs, formulas.Knowledge of groundwater and well operationsAbility to monitor and adjust system performance in real timeStrong decision-making and problem-solving skills in field environmentsAbility to interpret operational data and maintain accurate recordsEffective leadership, communication, and organizational skillsLicenses & CertificationsMust possess a valid Arizona driver's license (or ability to obtain) and maintain a driving record that meets District standardsPhysical & Work RequirementsAbility to perform physically demanding tasks, including walking long distances, climbing, bending, and liftingAbility to safely perform work using proper body mechanics and ergonomic practicesComfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditionsAbility to work weekends, holidays, and respond to operational needs or emergenciesThis is a safety-sensitive position.
