Bridge Project ManagerLocation: Herndon, VA 20171Full time Compensation: $141,000 - $170,000Experience level: Mid-senior Experience required: 10 Years Education level: Bachelor’s degree Job function: Engineering Industry: Civil Engineering Total position: 1 Relocation assistance: Limited assistance Limited assistance Position Summary:JMT’s Herndon, VA office is growing and seeking an experienced Bridge Project Manager to help lead and deliver a growing portfolio of bridge and transportation structure projects across Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic. This role is ideal for a senior bridge engineer who is actively transitioning into a client-facing project management role and wants to take the next step in leadership, oversight, and delivery responsibility. The successful candidate will focus on project management, client coordination, schedule and resource management, and team leadership, while leveraging a strong technical bridge design background to guide project teams and ensure high-quality outcomes.This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from smaller $5M–$10M efforts to large, complex, regionally significant projects and design-build pursuits.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Lead bridge and structural projects in accordance with scope, schedule, and budgetServe as primary point of contact for clients, building strong working relationships and managing expectationsCoordinate and guide technical resources within the project team to ensure high-quality deliverablesProvide technical oversight and direction to bridge/structural staff; not expected to perform daily design, but must be comfortable reviewing work and making technical decisionsDevelop and manage project management plans, quality management plans, schedules, and staffing plansMonitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategiesManage subconsultants and coordinate multidisciplinary teamsCommunicate project status, updates, risks, and financial performance to internal leadership and clientsPrepare and review progress reports, invoices, and project status presentationsParticipate in project financial reviews and office leadership meetingsSupport staff development through mentorship, coaching, and performance feedbackAssist with business development activities including client relationship development, proposal support, and interviewsLong-term opportunity to serve as a client champion and take on staff oversight / direct reportsRequired Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program10+ years of bridge and structural design experienceDemonstrated project management experience or clear progression into a PM roleStrong client-facing communication and leadership skills (written and verbal)Professional Engineer (PE) license (Virginia preferred; other state PE considered if able to obtain Virginia PE within a reasonable timeframe)Preferred ExperienceExperience working with VDOT and Virginia localities/agenciesExperience with multiple delivery methods (Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, P3)Experience managing multidisciplinary teamsPrior experience working on complex or large-scale transportation infrastructure projectsWork ModelHybrid schedule: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote (remote days are Wednesday and Friday)Working ConditionsWork is performed primarily in an office environment with occasional field workOccasional site visits may involve outdoor conditions and limited lifting (up to 25 lbs) Compensation & RelocationBase salary range: $140,000 – $170,000, commensurate with experienceBonus eligibility based on level and market alignmentRelocation signing bonus available (paid after 90 days of employment) Must-Have RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Structural focus, ABET-accredited)10+ years of bridge and structural design experienceProfessional Engineer (PE) license (Virginia preferred; must be able to obtain VA PE if licensed elsewhere)Project management experience or demonstrated transition into PM responsibilitiesStrong client-facing communication skills MUST HAVE:Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Structural focus, ABET-accredited)10+ years of bridge and structural design experienceProfessional Engineer (PE) license (Virginia preferred; must be able to obtain VA PE if licensed elsewhere)Project management experience or demonstrated transition into PM responsibilitiesStrong client-facing communication skills NICE TO HAVE:Experience working with VDOT, and Virginia localities and agenciesExperience with multiple project delivery methods i.e. Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, P3Experience managing multidiscipline project teams.
