Account Clerk - Finance
This part-time position (approximately 20-25 hours per week) serves as primary back up to the Payroll Coordinator, provides backup/support to the Cashier and supports any necessary clerical functions required in the department.Be familiar with employee handbook, union contracts & benefit plansCoordinate with Human Resource specialist on benefit deduction adjustments and prepare as necessarySupports Payroll Coordinator in setting up new employee payroll records including name, address, social security number, birth date, employee number, pay rate, bank account information where applicable, and for changing pay rate status due to changes in union contracts or performance.Aids in updates to employee leave banks and changes in history in time and attendance system. Supports the Payroll Coordinator in monitoring FLSA hours for public safety employees, calculating hours and pay accordingly.Assists in processing wire transfers for Federal Payroll tax and State Withholding tax deposits, deferred compensation, union dues, Section 125, Wisconsin Retirement.Assists in preparing and filing quarterly federal 941 and state unemployment reports. Submits quarterly files to the state. Aids in preparing annual payroll reports and W-2 forms.  Assists in ensuring payroll records are organized in accordance with Wisconsin laws on retention, including the shredding of all confidential payroll material.Provides services to the general public by collection and processing of cash payments for the City and performing a variety of clerical duties for the Finance Department including receptionist responsibilities.Serves as general clerical support to the department when requested.Performs other duties as may be assigned.Requires high school diploma with post high school vocational or college course work in bookkeeping and/or accounting and two years of experience in payroll processing. An associate degree in accounting or a related field is preferred.ÂKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of payroll practices and laws governing it. Strong mathematical aptitude to perform general bookkeeping functions. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.Knowledge of automated payroll-processing systems.                                                      Knowledge of federal and state payroll and financial laws.                                                                    Ability to perform various accounting functions on a computer.Knowledge of spreadsheets, data entry and payroll software.                         Ability to type and file.                                                                     Ability to work in a team environment.                                                        Ability to work accurately under pressure.ÂPhysical RequirementsTask involves sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.Fingering repetitive motions including extended periods at the keyboard.ÂEnvironmental RequirementsNone. This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.ÂSensory RequirementsThe task requires close visual acuity to perform various activities. The task requires oral communications ability.The task requires sound perception and discriminationÂ
