Overview of the Position:The Brook Hill Alliance (formerly PLUS) is a global leader in providing English language courses to international students. Our mission is to empower students to connect with the world through language and cultural exchange. At Brook Hill, we are dedicated to creating vibrant, inclusive, and safe environments where students can grow academically, culturally, and personally.Brook Hill runs summer English language study and travel programs for international high school students across North America. The programs allow students the opportunity to take English classes and explore the surrounding regions while staying at North American colleges and universities.The Academic Supervisor is a seasonal, hourly, and in-person position which manages the logistics of Brook Hill's academic program at a certain campus. Duties include managing a staff of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instructors and specialty course instructors, coordinating teachers' schedules, assigning teachers to classrooms, assigning students to classrooms (based on placement tests), supervising and providing feedback on instruction, addressing any issues as they arise, and providing customer service to students and their chaperones. This position is not eligible for on-campus housing.Travel to and from campus as part of your commute is not compensated. Costs related to parking may not be included, but complimentaryparking permits may be available depending on the campus.This Position is Perfect for:Teachers or administrators who are interested in gaining more experience in staff management and customer serviceIndividuals who are detail-oriented and organized, and proficient at Google Sheets and Microsoft ExcelMulti-taskers who can manage multiple priorities simultaneouslyTime Commitment:The employment period for the Academic Supervisor position is generally 4-8 weeks during the summer, depending on the needs of the campus.The Academic Supervisor is expected to be present during all class sessions. Classes are Monday-Saturday, on average 4-5 times a week (with some Saturday mornings required). Some weeks may require up to six days of classes. Most lessons are 8:30am-12:15pm, with some additional afternoon classes 1:15pm-5:00pm. Some work outside of class hours will be required. Peak enrollment is usually the last two weeks of July.Some overtime work may be expected.Compensation:Hourly Wage for this position is between $27-$34per hour.Specific Duties and Responsibilities:The following is expected of the Academic Supervisor:Standard ExpectationsInteract with groups of international high school students and their group leaders in a professional, enthusiastic, and customer service-oriented mannerBe familiar with, adhere to, and enforce Brook Hill policies and procedures, including emergency and public health protocolsEnsure the safety of all participantsBe familiar with campus-specific informationMaintain frequent communication with Brook HillstaffAssist with emergency situations, as neededComplete all Brook Hillassessments received during employment periodAssist in duties other than the aforementioned and the following, as assigned and as they ariseAcademic ProgramManage all logistics of the site-specific academic programManage all instructors, including coordinating their schedules, reviewing and approving time sheets, supervising and providing feedback on instruction, and assigning them classrooms based on the list of available classrooms provided by Brook HillTogether with instructors, create a safe, comfortable, and engaging learning environment for all studentsReview the curricula provided by Brook Hill to be adequately familiar with lesson plans. Instructors may supplement the curriculum with their own materials, as appropriate.Download and review all online placement test scores per session; assist with sorting students into levels and classes based on test scoresConsult with instructors after the first lesson to ensure students have been placed into the correct level; conduct assessments of students' oral proficiency, as neededProvide superior customer service to students and their chaperonesMeet with all chaperones at the beginning of each session to provide an overview of the academic programs and answer any questions; meet with chaperones as needed and as requested during the remainder of each sessionCheck all attendance sheets within the first 15 minutes of class and immediately address any student absences with group leaders and the rest of the Brook Hill team to locate studentsCopy any worksheets needed per class and distribute to instructors as neededDistribute classroom supplies to instructors as neededCommunicate with the host institution regarding classroom needs and technology issues, as neededCoordinate the completion and distribution of end-of-course certificatesAttend and present at the students' graduation ceremonyGive presentation about programsConduct a one-hour observation of teachers (at minimum) and provide feedback to instructorsConduct performance evaluations for each teacherFill in as substitute teacher for in-person and online lessons as neededOversee select online instructors and classrooms, as neededCollaborate with the instructors and Brook Hill administrationregarding instructional methods and thecurriculumAttend training session and any additional meetings organized by the Brook Hill administrationTrain site-specific instructorsMaintain frequent and professional communication with instructorsQualifications and Desired Skills:Authorization to work in the U.S. requiredMust be 18 years or olderBachelor's degree required; TESOL certificate and/or Master's degree preferredPrior teaching experience required; prior EFL/ESL teaching experience strongly preferredPrior supervisory experience strongly preferredPrior management and coordination experience strongly preferredPrior customer service experience strongly preferredExperience working with multicultural and multilingual classrooms strongly preferredCommand of Google Drive (including Google Sheets and Google Slides) and the Microsoft suite of products (including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) requiredStrong organizational skills and attention to detail requiredSuccessful candidates will be self-motivated, professional, and adaptable, with strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, and be able to work independently.Because this role involves working with minors, employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and any required fingerprinting, in compliance with state and federal regulations.Physical Demands:Do the essential functions of this job require lifting?
