Job DescriptionJob Title: Social Work and Family Studies Student WorkerClassification: Student Employee (non-exempt)Name and Address of Employer: St. Olaf College, 1520 St. Olaf Ave, Northfield, MN 55057If the position requires the student to work off campus, provide the name and address here:Department Name: Social Work and Family StudiesUnit Number (5 digits): 11353Length of Position: See Employment AuthorizationContact Person/Supervisor: Academic Administrative Assistant/AAAWage Range: $12.00-13.00/hourDescription of the Position: (Purpose of the Position): Assist the faculty and staff of the Social Work and Family Studies Department by performing clerical tasks as well as tasks that assist the faculty with their classes.In the office, the student will assist the AAA with tasks such as but not limited to: collecting the mail and distributing it, scanning, making posters for events, picking up items (such as catering pick up), and picking up books from the library. Transferable Skills:Organization of priority of tasks, being able to properly assess the urgency of tasks.Mastery in field: grading and tutoring in social work and family studiesAnalysis and language skills: providing insightful commentary in grading feedbackGeneral work/life skill development: delivering assignments in a timely mannerLeadership/Behavioral: Managing expectations of fellow students and instructorAnalysis: succinctly breaking down complex concepts into easy-to-understand segmentsResearch: Being able to independently find articles or other resources as needed for the instructor Duties and Responsibilities: Perform basic office duties, such as collecting mail, making copies, scanning documents, filling photocopier, and delivering envelopes to student POs. Manage work room inventory by knowing what supplies are in the workroom, noting inventory levels and letting supervisor know when something needs to be ordered. Word processing and computer work which may include creating flyers, surveys, recording data usually using Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Google Docs. Run campus errands as needed, such as returning items to the library or putting up posters. Potential to work on longer-term projects (eg. bulletin board designs, website management, or database maintenance). Be available for any other daily tasks that come up.Assist the instructor with some or all of the following:Grading exams and other assignmentsProviding tutoringReview and proof exams prior to test periodsHold study/review sessionsFind relevant new articles for use in classesEdit and add to slide decksAssist with Moodle quality-controlFacilitate in class discussionsQualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)Attention to detail, punctuality, good oral and written communication skills, confidentiality, positive attitudeAcademic: earned a B+ or higher in the course for which they will TA.
