Doctoral Lecturer - Full time in Sciences FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE COLLEGE John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. POSITION OVERVIEW The Department of Sciences at John Jay College of Criminal Justice invites applications for one full-time Doctoral Lecturer position to begin Fall 2026. The successful candidate will teach biology courses in our undergraduate majors and minors, from entry level up to capstone seminars. Candidates should have a strong track record in science education. Candidates must be willing to serve as an advisor and mentor to students in the majors. Three years of successful college-level teaching experience are required, as are positive teaching evaluations. Candidates are expected to have expertise in teaching biology courses. The hiring committee is especially interested in applicants who contribute to the diversity mission of the college through their leadership, community service, research, and/or lived experiences. The position of lecturer is tenure-bearing through what is called a "certificate of continuous employment" (CCE) after the fourth annual reappointment. The position of lecturer is a teaching position with a course load of eight classes per year in addition to significant contributions of service to the department and college. There is no expectation of research or publication. The Department of Sciences at John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a vibrant community ranked among the oldest and most prestigious in the country in the field of forensic science. Faculty members are internationally recognized for their diverse expertise in chemistry, cellular and molecular biology, toxicology, entomology, pathology, and criminalistics. The Department offers a BS in Forensic Science (which includes the three tracks of Criminalistics, Molecular Biology and Toxicology), a BS in Toxicology and a BS in Cellular & Molecular Biology. A Master of Science in Forensic Science is also offered in the three tracks previously listed. The Department also offers an accelerated BS/MS program. Candidates are expected to bring enthusiasm and a demonstrated commitment to teaching. The successful candidate must be eager and qualified to work with our diverse student body. QUALIFICATIONS + Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Anatomy, Physiology or a related field at the time of appointment. Outstanding ABDs near completion may apply, however, degree should be conferred by August 15, 2026. Candidates that hold both a Master's degree in Biological Sciences and Master's in science education are also encouraged to apply + Three years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level. + Candidate should be able to provide evidence of teaching success and of incorporating emerging digital technologies in biology education. + Candidate should demonstrate proficiency in emerging pedagogical techniques and have knowledge of assessment of student learning + Willingness to participate in course and program development, and the ability to work with others for the good of the institution. COMPENSATION $62,241- $94,967 Salary commensurate with education and credentials.
