Process Improvement/ ERP Consultant

In this role, you will work directly with state and local governments across the United States and Canada to support consulting engagements, research initiatives, training programs, and other strategic projects that advance excellence in public finance and government operations.This position is based in GFOA’s Chicago office with hybrid work-from-home flexibility. GFOA is an equal opportunity employer.Job Duties Will Include but Are Not Limited To:Consulting and Client SupportStaff GFOA consulting projects by providing direct support to local governments preparing for, procuring, and implementing enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.Work independently and collaboratively with project teams to support client needs and project deliverables.Facilitate focus group meetings and workshops with GFOA clients to identify business process improvement opportunities.Review ERP proposals, participate in consultant interviews, evaluate implementation work products, and support ERP implementation projects for local governments.Research and Subject Matter ExpertiseDevelop expertise in public finance and local government operational areas such as budgeting, treasury, procurement, risk management, capital planning, and ERP systems.Apply GFOA best practices, research findings, and case studies to develop practical recommendations for local governments.Support research projects, training seminars, and member programming related to public finance and operational excellence.Maintain and contribute to GFOA’s knowledge resources and consulting methodologies.Communication and Member EngagementFacilitate GFOA networking groups and member engagement opportunities both online and in person.Plan and coordinate GFOA conference sessions and training seminars, ensuring a seamless attendee experience.Present data-driven information, findings, and recommendations to clients, members, and staff.Produce high-quality reports, presentations, and consulting deliverables that effectively communicate complex information and data.Requirements:The Consultant/Analyst will be a collaborative, analytical, and client-focused professional who is passionate about helping local governments improve operations and deliver better outcomes for their communities.Qualifications & Skills Subject Matter Expertise: Knowledge of public sector finance, procurement, human resources, payroll, budgeting, and/or enterprise resource planning (ERP) procurement and implementation, with an understanding of how GFOA best practices apply in local government settings.Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Ability to analyze complex information and challenges, manipulate and interpret data, evaluate options, and develop practical recommendations and solutions.Project Management: Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate competing deadlines, and deliver high-quality outcomes.Communication Skills: Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.Data and Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis applications, with the ability to quickly learn new software, tools, and technologies.Local Government Knowledge: Understanding of local government finance and awareness of the operational and strategic challenges facing state and local governments.Facilitation and Policy Analysis: Experience facilitating meetings, focus groups, and stakeholder discussions, synthesizing input from diverse audiences, and conducting policy or operational analysis to support effective decision-making.Physical RequirementsThis position requires the ability to occasionally move about the office or workspace and operate a computer and other office equipment.
