Anticipated EL ParaprofessionalReports To: Building Principal or DesigneePosition SummaryThe EL Paraprofessional provides instructional and language support to English Learner (EL) students in the Transitional Bilingual Program or Transitional Program of Instruction. Under the direction of the classroom teacher and EL staff, the paraprofessional supports students academically, socially, and linguistically to help them successfully access district instructional programs.Essential Responsibilities Support EL students individually or in small groups to reinforce academic, language, and social-emotional skills introduced by the teacher. Provide native language support, translation, and instructional scaffolding during classroom instruction and assessments. Assist students who are new to the country in acclimating to the school environment and routines. Support communication with families through translation, interpretation, and outreach as assigned. Assist with classroom supervision during transitions, lunch/recess, assemblies, drills, field trips, and other school activities. Support classroom behavior expectations and district-approved behavior management procedures. Collect and maintain student progress data as directed by instructional staff. Assist with EL assessments and school-based testing activities. Maintain confidentiality regarding student and family information. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required district trainings. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.Qualifications Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL), Substitute License, or Paraprofessional License preferred. Fluency in English and designated second language with the ability to translate and interpret. Ability to work effectively with students, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Ability to follow oral and written directions and work independently with minimal supervision. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to support student supervision and safety in various school settings. Regular and reliable attendance.Physical Requirements Ability to move throughout the school building and playground areas.
