The CHKD program is supported by surgeons with over 50 years of experience, in Dr Umar Boston (Chief of Cardiac Surgery, CHKD) and Dr Phillip Smith (Surgical Director of the Fetal Care Center). Currently, 100 index cardiac surgery cases are performed each year. The planned growth with the new CICU service line is to achieve approximately 200 cases per year. CHKD has committed to establishing a dedicated CICU service line. This commitment also includes building of a new CICU in the 1 st quarter of 2026.
