Job Summary The Substation Civil Design Engineer Consultant role is a mid-senior level, part-time, contract position. This position is fully-remote, allowing you to work from home, as work is needed. While working alongside a team of experienced electrical engineers, this position is responsible for designing, analyzing, and overseeing the construction of civil and structural components related to substation projects. Duties/Responsibilities Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: <ul><li>Design and develop structural plans and specifications for substation projects, including foundations, steel structures, and support systems.</li><li>Conduct structural analysis and calculations to ensure the integrity and safety of substation components.</li><li>Prepare detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and blueprints using software tools such as AutoCAD and STAAD.Pro.</li><li>Collaborate with electrical engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure cohesive and integrated substation designs.</li><li>Perform site assessments and inspections to evaluate existing structures and recommend necessary upgrades or modifications.</li><li>Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., AISC, ASCE, IEEE).</li><li>Develop project timelines, budgets, and resource plans to meet project requirements and deadlines.</li><li>Provide technical support and guidance during the construction and commissioning phases of substation projects.</li><li>Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for clients and stakeholders.</li><li>Stay current with advancements in structural engineering and substation design practices. </li></ul>Requirements Required Skills and Abilities <ul><li>Strong understanding of a substation project lifecycle at the utility level</li><li>Excellent technical communication and detail-oriented work practices</li><li>Proficiency in substation civil engineering design, including:</li><ul><li>Site grading, drainage systems, and site development</li><li>Topographical specifications, surveying, and geotechnical site boring identification</li><li>Knowledge of permitting procedures, right-of-way, property lines, and easements</li><li>Steel structure analysis and design</li><li>Foundations and oil containment design</li><li>Development of Spill Prevention Countermeasures and Control (SPCC), Preparedness Prevention and Contingency Plan (PPC), and Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP)</li><li>Substation access and roadways design</li></ul><li>Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills</li><li>Capable of supervising and training new team members</li><li>Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)</li><li>Experience with structural analysis software, such as RISA Foundation, MATHCAD, LPile, Hilti PROFIS, and RISA 3D</li><li>Familiarity with design codes and standards, including ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318, EPRI, ASTM, NESC, IBC, RUS 1724E-200, and IEEE</li><li>Proficiency in additional structural analysis software, such as STAAD Pro and SAG10</li><li>Experience with design software like AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Civil 3D </li></ul>Education And Experience <ul><li>Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited university in Civil or Structural Engineering required</li><li>Minimum 8 years of experience in Civil/Structural design of high voltage 15-500 kV substations</li><li>PE license required, must be eligible for licensure in IL, CO, MD, DE, MN, WI, TX, NM, AZ, and other states as needed. </li></ul>Salary Description $55.00 - $80.00 Hourly
