We are looking to fill the role of Structural Engineer - Seismic Subject Matter Expert (SME). The seismic engineer is responsible for providing leadership on LJB’s structural design of projects in high seismic regions. The seismic SME will have a depth of experience designing low- and mid-rise buildings in high seismic zones. The SME will develop repeatable best practices and drawings standards, mentor, and coach fellow colleagues, self-perform design, and sign and seal drawings. Pay: 95,000 – 135,000 Structural Engineer – Seismic Sme Essential Functions <ul><li>Independently completes structural calculations for structural systems including superstructures, foundations, and floor slabs</li><li>Support the definition of best practices and standards and communicate the contexts in which these practices and standards are applied</li><li>Represent the Buildings practice with clients on projects located within high seismic areas.</li><li>Validate the requirements and deliverables on LJB structural designs requiring high-seismic design and detailing.</li><li>Provide input into and/or create and execute best practices training material</li><li>Able to complete quality reviews to ensure accurate document and drawing production.</li><li>Help define seismic procedures or standards within LJB and provide recommendations for procedural improvements.</li><li>Has the ability to describe where anomalies or flaws may occur within structural drawings influenced by seismic conditions. </li></ul>Additional Responsibilities And Duties <ul><li>Occasionally travels for client meetings during design phase.</li><li>Understand the seismic language/terms/jargon to assist in training others.</li><li>Assist with development of in-house training and design tools while mentoring junior engineers.</li><li>Responsible for maintaining technical knowledge through completion of various training initiatives: attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, attending in-house systems/management training.</li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul>Education STRUCTURAL ENGINEER – SEISMIC SME ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS: <ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with structural emphasis required, master’s degree preferred.</li><li>PE preferred. </li></ul>Qualifications <ul><li>8+ years’ experience required in structural steel and reinforced concrete design required.</li><li>4+ years’ experience with lateral system design and seismic structural analysis required.</li><li>Experience using RAM Structural, RAM Elements, Enercalc, and Excel required.</li><li>Experience preparing construction documents, drawings, reports, and supporting documentation required.</li><li>Masonry and timber building experience preferred.</li><li>Mid-rise experience (cast-in-place framed and steel-framed) preferred.</li><li>Knowledge of Revit preferred. </li></ul>LJB Inc. is an equal opportunity employer and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any kind.
