The Seattle Vaccine Trials Unit (VTU), led by Dr. Julie McElrath, is part of Fred Hutch’s Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division. The VTU implements an array of studies researching the treatment and prevention of HIV and other infectious diseases. It is one of the 22 research sites within the HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN), the world’s largest publicly-funded multi-disciplinary international collaboration. Through the HVTN and other study sponsors, the VTU conducts phase I, II, and III clinical trials designed to test the safety and efficacy of HIV vaccines. Located on Seattle’s First Hill, the VTU is responsible for the recruitment, selection and enrollment of local volunteers. Since opening in 1987, Seattle VTU has worked with local community members who are interested in participating in research and has provided education to the local community. The VTU has had a long-term presence at local events, including Columbia City Night Market, Capitol Hill Farmers Market, Umoja Festival, Northwest Black Pride, Pride Asia, Trans Pride, Seattle Pridefest and many House Balls. Together with the help of our volunteers, we hope to end the HIV/AIDS pandemic. As a member of Fred Hutch’s Vaccine Trials Unit’s Outreach Team, the Social Media Coordinator will work with outreach staff to help support content and communications efforts to find potential volunteers for research studies. Reporting to the Operations and Outreach Manager, you will be responsible for supporting social media channels, digital content and outreach initiatives designed to reach a variety of audiences, including people who may be eligible for studies, community partners and other departments within the Fred Hutch community. You will also collaborate with full- and part-time outreach staff to create plans and strategies for engaging people in the local community. This is a part-time, benefits-eligible position (20 hours per week). Responsibilities <ul><li>Attend weekly team meetings on Mondays (4-6PM) and other days as needed.</li><li>Work with the outreach team to develop and execute social media initiatives across VTU channels, primarily including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and others as needed.</li><li>Draft, publish and assist team with social media posts, monitoring conversations and producing multimedia content such as infographics, video and Q&As.</li><li>Assist with maintaining, and contributing to, a cross-team editorial calendar.</li><li>Assist in running paid social campaigns promoting editorial content and study participation.</li><li>Monitor VTU team chats for content ideas and suggestions. </li><li>Provide support for team-wide multimedia / digital design needs.</li><li>Attend outreach events outside of normal office hours to help recruit study volunteers at local venues such as street locations, community events, community-based organizations, as well as bars and clubs including evenings or weekends.</li><li>Assist outreach team in researching and monitoring current events and trends for outreach and social media opportunities.</li><li>Collaborate with community organizations and stakeholders </li></ul>Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: <ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism and/or marketing, or equivalent work experience</li><li>Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)</li><li>Experience using social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) and associated tools and programs (including Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Canva) for professional and/or marketing purposes</li><li>Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills; basic understanding of/experience with creation and delivery of clear and persuasive communications for varying audiences</li><li>Analytical approach and good problem-solving skills, coupled with creative orientation</li><li>Comfort with ambiguity and complexity</li><li>Ability to work at all levels of organization and with diverse groups of stakeholders and knowledge bases </li></ul>Preferred Qualifications <ul><li>Basic digital design skills</li><li>Experience distilling complex information (science, research, technology) into compelling stories</li><li>Background in health sciences and strong interest in the Fred Hutch mission</li><li>1-2 years of experience producing or managing social media programming in a marketing, public relations or newsroom environment</li><li>Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop and Premiere </li></ul>How To Apply <ul><li>Please provide a cover letter.</li><li>Please provide a portfolio if you have one, or any examples of your work. </li></ul>A statement describing your commitment and contributions toward greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in your career or that will be made through your work at Fred Hutch is requested of all finalists.
