- The Nurse Coordinator serves as nursing supervisor during non-administrative tours and has designated authority, responsibility, and accountability for managing and directing employees, independently allocating human and materiel resources and making necessary changes in staffing due to tour-to-tour unplanned leave and/or changes in patient acuity.
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills, such as investigation of incidents which occur during tour, including obtaining statements from staff-on-the-spot.

- All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements, but do not possess the required licensure, may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case-basis.)
