- The Public Works Director is responsible for planning, supervising, and coordinating the activities of the Public Works Department subject to the general direction of the Public Works, Sewer and Water Committee and the City Administrator.
- The position involves administrative responsibility for water, sewer, and storm water utilities, the maintenance and construction of sanitary and storm sewers, water utility infrastructure, street and highway maintenance and construction, snow and ice removal, refuse and recycling collection, and public parking lot construction and maintenance.
- The Director of Public Works supervises the Assistant Director of Public Works, Streets Superintendent, Utility Billing Clerk, and Construction Supervisor.
- Furnishes administrative and technical advice, and written or oral reports to the Public Works, Sewer and Water Committee, City Council and City Administration;
