- The Forestry Division is responsible for protecting Montana's natural resources from wildland fires through regulation and partnerships with federal, state, and local agencies, and helping Montana's Citizens achieve land stewardship and compliance with state forestry laws.
- The Anaconda Unit represents the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, Forestry and Trust Land Management Divisions, within its assigned areas in Anaconda-Deer Lodge, Butte-Silver Bow, Granite and Powell counties.
- The Unit provides direct wildland fire suppression services for approximately 670,000 acres of State, private and federal land.
- On these lands the State is responsible for lease administration, rights-of-way, grazing, forest product sales, forest improvement projects, gravel permits, other uses, and administration of the Recreational Access Law. The Unit provides resource management assistance and administers the logging slash hazard reduction law on all private lands.
- Encourage proactive vegetation management on public and private forests and rangeland.
