- Work Location: E0235 Howe Russell Kniffen East Geoscience Complex Pay Grade: Other Academic Job Description: The Planetary Science Lab (PSL) in Geology & Geophysics, Louisiana State University (LSU), led by Dr. Suniti Karunatillake seeks a 24-month Postdoctoral Fellow.
- The LSU Big Idea Phase 3 Provost’s Seed Grant entitled “The GANGOTRI mission for geologic, habitability, and resource insight of Mars,” primarily funds the position.
- Additional opportunities include GANGOTRI-advancing collaborations with an incoming NASA Postdoctoral Program Fellow, advised by team member Dr. Heidi Haviland at the NASMSFC. Duties Include: 40% Submitting at least two mission-related manuscripts to internationally circulated journals managed by non-profit professional societies (e.g., American Geophysical Union’s Journal of Geophysical Research).
- The other may support one payload suite with related postdoctoral work conducted at JPL. 25% Leading one abstract on one of GANGOTRI’s science aims or hypotheses, another supporting LSU’s payload suite, and co-authoring a third with the GANGOTRI team.
- Specific experience required: The applicant’s research areas may span any combination of GANGOTRI-related topics: for example, analysis of Martian glacial observations across multiple satellite datasets; field work on Earth’s glacial processes; geophysical surveying methods including acoustic seismology; atomic and nuclear remote sensing methods such as visible to near-infrared, and gamma-neutron spectroscopy; and modeling englacial weathering or isotopic exchange.
