- The Point of Care technologist is a medical laboratory scientist who is responsible for assisting with the coordination and oversight of hospital Point of Care Testing (POCT) (waived and non-waived) in accordance with regulations.
- In licensure states, Laboratory Licensure in appropriate specialty(ies) for the department or location assignmentas applicable to the state-OR –
- In non-licensure states, must hold a national certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist such as ASCP, AAB, or AMT unless grandfathered per state requirement
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical, biological sciences, or related field.
- Serves as teacher, coach, and mentor for Point of Care testing clinicians.
