- Under the general direction of the Pharmacy Manager and Director, Drug Use and Disease State Management, and general supervision of the Staff Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Intern is responsible for supporting the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients at UPMC. These services will be provided in compliance with state and federal regulations, JCAHO Standards, and the mission and policies of the hospital and departments.
- During the first summer of the internship, you will be trained in pharmacy operations to include IV admixtures, decentralized pharmacy model, central pharmacy operations, and pharmacy satellite services as available.
- In addition to operational responsibilities (including 797 admixture), this position offers opportunities for research projects working with our PGY1 residents and clinical pharmacists according to the department needs and/or the intern’s interest (e.g. medication use evaluation, chart review/data collection for clinical/cost-savings initiatives, patient education.)
- During the school year, we expect one 5-hour shift every other week and two 8-hour shifts every other weekend.
- There will be a holiday commitment, one summer and one winter holiday on a rotational basis.
