- Through a combination of in-house staff and contract services, the division oversees the maintenance of 292 acres of parks, 162 acres of landscape and lighting districts, 266 acres of open spaces, 23 miles of community trails, over 5,000 valley oaks, 27 acres of city facilities and parking lots, 113 acres of ponding basin landscape, and 50 acres of roadside/medians.
- The primary functions are shelter care and management, animal field services, and animal licensing with an overall goal of promoting public health and safety, facilitating responsible pet ownership, humanely caring for animals, and providing education and positive enforcement efforts.
- The state-of-the-art Animal Care Center, housing animal control and animal shelter staff, has the capacity for up to 200 animals and is the major holding facility for lost and stray pets in the area.
- Plans, organizes, manages and directs, through subordinate managers and supervisors, the divisions and functions of the Parks and Recreation Department which include but are not limited to Parks and Urban Forestry, Recreation, Facilities and Animal Care Services.
