- OurLegacy is designated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as the only organ procurement organization (OPO) in east central Florida and is accredited by the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) as a tissue recovery agency.
- The Surgical Services Coordinator (SSC) supports the mission, goals, and strategic plan of OurLegacy by overseeing all deceased donor organ perfusion and preservation processes and is responsible for the intraoperative leadership of a team of clinical professionals while managing the recovery and preservation of all solid organs.
- Ensures stewardship of all donated organs and provides access to transplant programs by performing all perfusion, packaging, labeling and regulatory documentation in an expedited manner, and without error.
- o Independent of physician oversight, evaluates the physical condition of deceased donor kidneys after removal from donor; performs dissection of adipose tissue from the donor kidney without damaging the organ; reviews anatomy and independently assesses appropriateness for placement on pulsatile perfusion device and advises surgeon of decision outcomes.
- Communicates this information to the organ procurement coordinator so it may be relayed to receiving transplant programs so they may adequately prepare for the implantation procedures.
