- For the remainder of the program, applicants hone their skills alongside NPS craftspeople at the Historic Preservation Training Center and may include work at other NPS sites requiring travel.
- The Woodcrafting Team combines preservation carpentry with traditional woodworking to restore and replicate architectural features that include windows, doors, columns, and many other components found on and in historic structures.
- Projects can include window and door restoration; millwork replication and fabrication; structural repairs and timber-framing; exterior envelopes; wood, slate, and metal roofing.
- Examples of tasks for participants include but are not limited to: measuring and cutting boards; simple framing or roofing work; ability to measure, cut, or install wood components of historic structures using on-site measurements, verbal directions, drawings, and specifications.
- Participants will also be required to stoop, bend, kneel, climb and walk in all manners of environmental conditions such as rain, mud, heat and snow.
