- The Yakima Municipal Court Commissioner presides over and adjudicates a variety of hearings related to criminal and civil cases in accordance with established local procedures and prescribed Washington State law, and is accountable for the judicial operations of the court ensuring compliance with the State Administrator of the Courts' judicial requirements.
- The Municipal Court Commissioner is accountable for the integrity and appropriateness of the judgments made in court and shall comply with the Code of Judicial Conduct.
- The Commissioner is an appointed position with vacancies filled by the sitting Yakima Municipal Court Judges.
- Utilizes current knowledge of legislative changes affecting Municipal Court procedures to analyze and solve complex problems including researching issues, proposing, developing, coordinating, writing and/or implementing guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Provides input to Municipal Court Judges to develop and administer short-term and long-term plans and goals, and procedures for Municipal Court Services.
