- Machinist apprentice will work towards being responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, repair and construction of equipment used in the casting and finishing of steel components used for railroad undercarriage support wheel assemblies.
- Job duties include but are not limited to; tearing down and repairing of gear boxes, motors, annealing cars or hoppers, prefabricating or refurnishing machine parts, welding, use of cutting torches, grinders and large/small hand tools.
- It is recommended that applicants have high school diploma or present a certificate of high school equivalency test (GED), and must satisfactorily complete the following: one (1) year of general mathematics and/or one (1) year of algebra.
- Applicants must agree to abide by terms, conditions and provisions of the apprenticeship program.
- Courses will be held at Southwestern Illinois College.
