A recently identified lithium brine resource of approximately 2.4 million metric tons lithium carbonate equivalent at our Ogden, Utah, solar evaporation site is creating new opportunities at Compass Minerals. As the largest operation of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, our Ogden operations has leveraged the high mineral concentrations within the ambient lake brine from the North Arm of the Great Salt Lake to produce sulfate of potash (SOP), salt and magnesium chloride products for more than 50 years. We operate 16 production and packaging facilities with more than 2,000 employees throughout the U.S., Canada, Brazil and the U.K. **Summary:** This role is key to the success of both the pilot and full-scale lithium operations. The successful candidate directs the operation and scale-up of processes, instruments, and equipment from the pilot plant through to full-scale operation. Serving as a liaison between field activities and the engineering group, your ability to manage a small team, ensure efficient operation of plant equipment, distill data into useful information, and communicate to a wide array of stakeholders will determine your success. You will ensure that the operation complies with all environmental health and safety (EHS) requirements, and you will serve as first escalation step in case of required support. Communicating with technical partners you will optimize pilot plant operations and secure all expertise needed for construction of full plant. This is a high growth opportunity role that can step up to manager of operational plant. **Essential Job Functions:** Include but are not limited to the following: *(Management reserves the right to add or modify the duties and responsibilities at any time.)* - **Pilot plant project management:** * Ensures all EHS regulations are in compliance * Manage the development, implementation and maintenance of process methods and equipment for the production of process formulas, technologies and products to achieve cost effectiveness and maximize product quality * Plan and implement the development of new process formulas, establishes operating equipment specifications * Develop and implement production tracking or quality control systems, analyzing production, quality control, maintenance, or other operational reports to detect production problems * Inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures or safety rules * Assist in the development of SOPs * Work on problems of moderate scope in which analysis of situation or data requires review of identifiable factors - **Team building:** * Selects, trains, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the process and equipment * Manages workforce schedule/roster * Investigates accidents or injuries and prepare reports of findings and incorporates lessons learned it into trainings and team discussions - **Communication/ Stakeholder management:** * Act as liaison between laboratory, engineering, and operations personnel to ensure all designs, changes, recommendations are feasible and successful * Able to understand business implications of pilot plant operations and to communicate effectively to upper management **Qualifications****Qualifications:** To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
