- The Interventional Radiology Technologist is a member of the Interventional Radiology (IR) and works closely with the Interventional Radiologist and Registered Nurse to deliver direct patient care, before, during and after Interventional Radiology cases.
- Assists Registered Nurse in collecting patient data, identifying priority problems, reports variances to the RN and physicians (radiologist and anesthesiologist), and documents findings in the radiologic documentation
- Anticipates and adjusts rapidly to the equipment/supply need of the interventional radiologist
- Demonstrates proper technique for catheters/guidewire exchanges and power injector operation
- Practices radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors to minimize radiation to patient and staff
