- This is an executive level position which reports to the City Manager or his designee and is responsible for planning, directing and administering the development and implementation of social services, neighborhood redevelopment and affordable housing projects for the City of Miami.
- An incumbent in this classification works directly with the Mayor, Commissioners, and the City Manger formulating long-term strategies to provide affordable housing, reduce poverty and address other social needs for City of Miami citizens.
- Administers special programs and grants which include, but are not limited to: the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), the HOME Partnership Initiatives, the Housing Opportunities for Persons with Aides (HOPWA), the Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG) Programs, the State Housing Initiative Partnership (SHIP), the Housing Trust Fund, and the City’s Anti Poverty Initiatives in accordance with appropriate rules, regulations and guidelines.
- Recommends the allocation of funds for profit, and non-profit corporations; monitors programmatic activities; ensures through various audit procedures that funds are expended in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Ensures the administration of assistance programs for the preservation and renovation of existing housing; plans, develops and implements new housing programs; and coordinates a community-wide housing plan.
