- As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for minor and major repairs and maintenance of heavy equipment vehicles (i.e., snow-fighting equipment and dump trucks), light vehicles (roadside trucks), and tools.
- INDOT also provides a generous Standard Hand Tool Reimbursement of up to $1500 per year for full-time Mechanic positions for the purchase, replacement and repair of tools required for maintenance and repair activities related to INDOT's fleet of transportation vehicles, snow and ice management equipment, road maintenance equipment and all other fleet items.
- Rebuild, replace, and/or repair major parts on cars and light trucks, heavy-duty trucks, and heavy equipment (e.g., exhaust system, fuel injection, electrical systems, transmission, drive train, mechanical and air suspension, charging systems, air, and hydraulic brakes).
- Snow removal when necessary and other related duties as required (e.g., keeping garage area, equipment, and tools clean and orderly.
- Operate snowplow, tow truck, or other equipment; repair mowers and sharpens blades; pump gasoline and diesel fuel and maintain daily records of same.
