- The dental assistant’s primary responsibility is to assist the dentist with clinical procedures and caring for patients.
- This includes chairside assisting, taking x-rays, taking preliminary impressions, and initial screening of emergency patients.
- The assistant will be expected to assist in four-handed dental procedures including, but not limited to: examinations, periodontal charting, composite and amalgam restorations, oral surgery, removable prosthodontics, crowns, and endodontics.
- Prepare for and demonstrate clinical proficiency in the selection and transfer of instruments in each area of clinical dentistry (diagnostic, preventive, operative, oral surgery, crowns, etc.)
- Take digital x-rays of diagnostic quality (periapical, bitewing, and panoramic) using appropriate patient and operator safety measures for radiation
