- Ensures that courtrooms, chambers, and jury rooms are ready for use; makes certain that all parties and clerical support personnel are in attendance; brings judge's equipment to the courtroom; announces judge and calls court to order.
- Remains with impaneled juries outside the jury room; escorts them to lunch or dinner as the judge dictates; orders food when jury is deliberating at length or at night; arranges hotel accommodations for jurors in event the jury is sequestered; and returns juries to court after verdicts are reached.
- Escorts jurors to type of transportation being used during evening hours or when travel outside the courtroom is necessary for any reason during trials.
- Contacts attorneys to provide time to report for hearing, trial, and in judges' chambers; assists the judicial assistant, when necessary, by answering telephones, opening mail or maintaining case records or forms.
- Assists with duties and responsibilities of judicial assistant as needed.
