The Controls Manager will be jointly accountable with business management for the development and maintenance of a strong and consistent controls environment encompassing those activities as well as represent the business across multiple firmwide risk programs, including Operational Resilience. The First Line Control Manager role is responsible for executing risk management processes and control evaluations within the business, including but are not limited to conducting risk assessments, testing the controls, identifying and reporting risks and issues, and monitoring adherence to risk management policies and procedures. We'll trust you to: <ul><li>Act as an advisor to business partners within and outside of HR in assessing risk and identifying appropriate controls for in-scope activity</li> <li>Support the periodic evaluation of the operating effectiveness of controls, including planning, stakeholder management, and reporting results</li> <li>Develop a deep understanding of existing workflows, technologies, priorities, and practices; you will review, challenge, and validate existing policies and procedures against industry leading practices</li> <li>Be responsible for conducting robust and proactive risk assessments on the most critical activities to identify both current and emerging risks; you will collaborate with colleagues to set Key Performance and Key Risk Indicators to create standards and the ability to measure performance towards standards</li> <li>Engage with internal stakeholders to design, prioritize and build control frameworks and maintain a control inventory, process maps and other documentation, as applicable</li> <li>Effectively communicate and get buy-in from all internal stakeholders related to the control vision, framework, and structure to ensure broad adoption</li> <li>Develop control testing plans, conduct control testing, report results, monitor control issue remediation as applicable and validate issue closure documentation</li> <li>Identify areas of training for the HR team and their stakeholders to support embedding a culture of active risk management</li> <li>Work with Senior Management to assess appetite for risk and provide recommendations accordingly</li> <li>Provide reporting to senior management and stakeholders on program progress</li> <li>Develop and maintain strong relationships with those across the broader risk management agenda including Risk Management, Legal and Compliance and Internal Audit</li> <li>Advance incident and issue management ensuring appropriate tracking and remediation in accordance with action plan(s), validate issue closure documentation for first line owned business identified issue</li> <li>Monitor emerging industry trends, regulatory changes, and technology advancements to proactively adjust the controls strategy</li> <li>Engage with external stakeholders to instill confidence in our control systems and policies</li> <li>Exhibit effective communication and problem-solving skills while leading risk management function toward department's strategic goals and objectives</li> <li>Liaise as the HR Department's point of contact between department and the Chief Data Office to perform data management and record retention required tasks including record inventory and retention schedule maintenance, update, and records disposal</li> <li>Coordinate and ensure timely execution or deliverables on Business Continuity Management related matters, including a risk-based business impact analysis, Business Continuity Plan ("BCP"), and Disaster Recovery testing to ensure that the essential functions within HRD are able to continue in the event of an emergency</li> <li>Oversee and coordinate with all teams within the department to adhere to the Bank's Third Party Risk Management protocols including vendor onboarding, ongoing monitoring, and offboarding, and address relevant issues accordingly</li> <li>Participate and manage departmental ad hoc projects on an as needed basis</li> </ul> You'll need to have: <ul><li>8+ years of front-line risk, operational risk, internal or external audit, and/or relevant controls experience. Related certifications are a plus (CIA, CRMA, CCEP, CISSP, CRCM, etc.)</li> <li>An understanding of foundational risk management frameworks (i.e., COSO, COBIT, NIST, etc.) including financial and non-financial risks faced by institutions and their potential impacts on a Company's operating environment</li> <li>Experience in risk identification and control assessment with the ability to design, plan and execute testing of internal controls across a wide range of business processes</li> <li>Knowledge of manual and automated control testing techniques and knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements</li> <li>Facilitate discussions and review and challenge Risk & Control Self-Assessments</li> <li>Provide on-going assessment of information gathered, to evaluate the strength of the established procedures and controls and work with the appropriate groups to determine control weakness</li> <li>Assist with root cause analysis for control breaks to identify significant gaps and weaknesses while driving consistency across LOBs where applicable</li> <li>Sound analytical skills to filter, prioritize and synthesize potentially complex and dynamic material from multiple sources</li> <li>Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills</li> <li>Ability to execute team strategy and the ability to proactively identify areas of risk across processes and influence senior stakeholders</li> <li>Aptitude to identify internal efficiencies and implement internal process improvements</li> <li>Ability to work independently and across a matrix organization partnering with business partners, functional owners, technology teams</li> </ul> We'd love to see: <ul><li>Knowledge of the data and/or financial industry and will encourage the person in role to attend conferences and industry events to stay up to date</li> </ul> Does this sound like you?
