- At Queens Public Library (QPL), within the larger scope of formal and informal learning of the Programs & Services Department (PSD) and reporting to the Community Health Coordinator, the Community Health Specialist is committed to advancing the vision of the division by increasing access to needed health information and resources among Queens residents through the development and delivery of tailored and culturally appropriate health education information, materials and interventions.
- Areas of focus include addressing leading health indicators such as access to health services, information and resources related to clinical preventive services (cancer, hypertension, and diabetes), promoting strategies to improve environmental quality, maternal infant and child health, mental health, nutrition, physical activity and reducing obesity, oral health, reproductive and sexual health.
- Researches and sources health data to inform the development and delivery of health programs and services, as population health trends change including special initiatives such as project grants, emerging disease interventions, or any other discretionary funding.
- Attends seminars and workshops within budgetary limits to remain abreast of trends and new directions in the field.
- Partners with other programming teams, and the Community Learning division, to ensure an array of Community Health offerings across the lifespan from Early Childhood to Older Adults.
