- Serves as Port Engineer working in an office environment or at a repair facility as a special assistant to the Chief, filling in for Chief Engineers and Assistant Engineers aboard Floating Plant on a regular and recurring basis.
- Serves as Technical Expert for Floating Plant maintenance, routinely serving as Chief Engineer aboard Plant to investigate mechanical problems and develop possible solutions with vessel officers.
- Serves as Contracting Officer Representative on contracts for shipyard repairs, construction of replacement parts, and service contracts.
- Directs Marine Oiler and other personnel in Engine Department engaged in oiling, greasing, operating, and repairing machinery and equipment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid U.S. Coast Guard license for Chief Engineer (limited-near coastal or higher) of Motor Vessels of 3,000 HP.
